Would you like to have a Legionella management plan or risk analysis drawn up?

Are you aware of the risks to your organisation in terms of Legionella contamination? How do you manage those risks? We are able to draw up a Legionella management plan for you, as we are BRL 6010 certified by KIWA for this purpose.

Our consultants have years of experience and knowledge in thoroughly inspecting water installations. They investigate where the risks of Legionella bacteria growth lie, as well as the risk of contamination to guests, residents, or employees.

We first carry out a risk analysis and then draw up a Legionella control plan accordingly. With this, you will know exactly which measures you need to take to prevent Legionella contamination—for example, flushing unused pipes or regularly checking the water temperature.

Our management plan means, you can get started right away and record measures in a paper or digital logbook. We can even automate temperature recordings for you. We also indicate how often and at which points sampling is required for laboratory testing.

Legionella management plan mandatory for priority institutions

By law, all priority institutions are required to have a BRL 6010-certified agency draw up a risk analysis and Legionella management plan. You must then implement the measures stipulated as a result of this.

The mandatory control plan applies to the drinking water installations of all priority institutions, such as:

  • Accommodation facilities (hotels, guesthouses, bungalow parks, camping farms, B&Bs for more than 5 people)
  • Camping sites
  • Hospitals and healthcare institutions
  • Swimming and bathing facilities
  • Marinas
  • Asylum seeker centres
  • Penitentiary institutions
  • Truck stops, fuel stations, etc. with public showers

In addition to a Legionella control plan, priority institutions must take samples twice a year and have their check valves inspected. We are able to assist with this as well.

Call us in for Legionella sampling and analysis

Have your drinking water checked for the presence of Legionella bacteria. We take care of sampling nationwide at attractive rates – ensuring fast testing and resampling. With us, you can be sure the sampling and analysis is accredited under number L154.

We work according to fixed protocols for Legionella sampling. The risk analysis specifies how many samples are required, depending on the number of taps in your drinking water installation.

If the established standard for Legionella bacteria been exceeded, we will immediately advise you on how to protect guests, residents, and employees. We also help you to report the issue to the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate and guide you through identifying and eliminating the source.

Thermal or chemical disinfection of the tap water system

If excessive Legionella levels are detected, that’s where we step in to prevent any contamination and help you to clean the system quickly.

Thermal disinfection: increasing the water temperature to kill Legionella bacteria.
Chemical disinfection: adding approved chemicals to the water system.

We carry out the disinfection. After 48 hours, we take a follow-up sample. If this comes back clean, you know the disinfection was successful. Our experts will advise you on the most cost-effective method to achieve this result.

Technical modifications to your drinking water installation

If the risk analysis or another inspection shows that your installation does not meet requirements, our technicians can make the necessary adjustments to rectify this. For example: replacing defective check valves, shutting off dead pipes, or other modifications.

Why inspect check valves?

An annual check is actually mandatory for collective tap water installations. This prevents contaminated water from flowing back into the drinking water supply and reduces Legionella risks.

Our inspectors carry out periodic check valve inspections, provide clear reports, and advise you where necessary. We check and approve valves according to Waterwerkblad 1.4G of the water supply regulations.

The test method depends on factors such as:

  • The type of backflow protection (EA, BA, or CA)
  • The connected device
  • The presence of shut-off valves
  • The accessibility of the check valves at the location

For installations with more than 50 check valves, random sampling is permitted, —saving time and costs. We can carry this out for you if valve positions are clearly documented.
